Daffyd Thomas' catchphrase, "I'm the only gay in the village," has been embraced by Sydney's gay community – with a twist.
The flamboyant character from the BBC TV series is the inspiration for the theme of this year's Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade,"you're not the only gay in the village".
The month-long gay and lesbian festival began on February 4 but got into full swing with a lavish Opera House party last week.
It will culminate in the annual Mardi Gras parade down Sydney's Oxford Street on Saturday.
Organisers expect about half a million people to line the parade route, which will include about 6000 participants and 120 floats.
