LITTLE BRITAIN USA

Wilmington is an American city in the USA and it's the county seat of New Hanover County, North Carolina.

In the year 2000 The population was 75,838. As of July 1, 2007 United States of America Census Bureau estimated the population at around 99,623. About the same size as Guildford!

Wilmington is the principal city of an area known as Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area, a populated region covering New Hanover Brunswick, and Pender counties. Together these counties have a combined population of around 274,532 (in the 2000 census).
It got its name in honor of Spencer Compton, who was Prime Minister under George II and was known as the Earl of Wilmington.

Wilmington was settled on the Cape Fear River, an excellent filmic tie in! It has a one mile long Riverwalk as a main tourist attraction containing many historic sights and places and is just a few minutes walk from nearby beaches. In 2008 The National Trust for Historic Preservation bestowed the award of one of a Dozen Distinctive Destinations. Maybe that's why David and Matt chose Wilmington, North Carolina? Wilmington residents have the advantage of living nestled between the river and the ocean with Wrightsville Beach a short 20 minute drive from downtown. This makes it a great TV and film location as it has both metropolitan and coastal aspects to it's architecture and climate.

The town is home to the University of North Carolina Wilmington, the Wilmington Hammerheads USL soccer team, the training camp site for the Charlotte Bobcats and the Cape Fear Museum. It is also home to the World War II Battleship USS North Carolina (BB-55). Now a war memorial, the ship is open to public tours and is on display across from the downtown port area. 

As previously stated the city has become a major center of American film and television production; motion pictures such as A Walk To Remember, Blue Velvet, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Empire Records, Cape Fear, Black Knight, 28 Days, The Crow, Nights in Rodanthe and the controversial Dakota Fanning film Hounddog; as well as television shows such as Matlock, Surface, The WB's Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill have been produced there. Now Little Britain USA can be added to the list and we'll get to see locations from around this wonderful place.
