Granada wins Little Britain contract
Underwear pronouncing "I'm the only gay in the village" and Vicky Pollard pencil sets are to be launched in shops before Christmas following the appointment of Granada Ventures as licensing agent for the hit comedy Little Britain. The five-year contract to sell merchandise for the award-winning BBC show is a coup for Granada, which is the consumer products arm of commercial broadcaster ITV. The market for anything from mugs to clothes to ring tones associated with the show is estimated to be worth £50m this year alone.

Double TV win for Little Britain
Little Britain's success is continuing with two Golden Rose prizes Award-winning BBC comedy Little Britain has scored a double success at this year's prestigious Rose d'Or television festival in Lucerne, Switzerland. Matt Lucas and David Walliams were awarded Golden Roses for best comedy and best male comedy performance.

Little Britain heads for America
Little Britain could be on the brink of following The Office across the Atlantic, with American TV networks apparently keen to make their own version of the show. According to reports in today's press, the sketch show series that has become a smash hit in the UK is being eyed up by US TV executives. They hope to tap into the success of Matt Lucas and David Walliams by re-creating the same set of characters in America. However, the writers and stars of the series are biding their time before selling the show on.
“It is actually quite popular on BBC America," Lucas told The Times.
"It would be very exciting to go to America but you would have to explain an awful lot to them.”
A producer of the show told the newspaper that the characters would be adapted to suit the new audience.
“We have offers from the States to sell the show as a format," Geoff Posner told the newspaper.
"I imagine that they will be looking for the only gay in Houston.”
Lucas and Walliams are currently working on the third series of the show, which has seen the pair win countless awards since it transferred from the radio to the BBC TV channels.
The series is expected to screen sometime next year.

Comics to bring Little Britain to city stage
CULT comedians Matt Lucas and David Walliams are set to bring a stage version of their hit BBC series Little Britain to Edinburgh. The pair are planning to create a stage version of Little Britain and take it on the road next year. And the Capital, where the duo performed at the Fringe in the 90s, is set to be one of the venues for the show. Lucas said today he was looking forward to returning to the city where he cut his comedy teeth.
"I think me and Dave did some pretty crazy stuff on stage when we started working together," he said. "We used to perform at the Festival at midnight and we had all sorts of hecklers but we always took them on.
"It’s my favourite city and I’m really looking forward to coming back. We’re doing a big stage tour next year so we’ll be back in Edinburgh for that."
