Little Britain spin-offs have helped the BBC’s commercial arm boost its profiles by 62 per cent in on year. The second series was the top-selling DVD for BBC Worldwide in the last 12 months, helping the home entertainment division triple its profits to £25.8 million.
In addition, a box set of both series one and two was the fifth biggest seller, while The Catherine Tate Show came in at number 4. Little Britain sales were also strong in Australia and New Zealand, the company’s annual report said.
The whole company made record profits of £89.4 million for 2005/06.
Little Britain also helped the corporation’s drive to make money from digital media, as David Walliams and Matt Lucas’s audiobook release was the company’s most downloaded title.
Licensing Little Britain clips for mobile phones also helped swell BBC Worldwide’s coffers.
